Djerba in September: the sea still warm, the island without the crowds
The sea still at 25 degrees, the beach given back to guests, the Houmt Souk market without the rush of summer: why September is one of the best months to discover Djerba.

The island's best-kept secret
August packs its bags, and the island breathes again. The beaches regain their width, the traffic eases, and the light changes: lower, more golden, less overwhelming than in high summer. The sea, though, has not moved: after two months of heat, it holds at 25 to 26 degrees well into the month. The air sits around 28 to 30 degrees by day, and the evenings lose their weight: the first light jacket since June makes its comeback after sunset.
The sea and the beach in September
Sidi Mehrez goes back to what it is the rest of the year: a wide, quiet beach where you can walk a long way before the water reaches your waist. The sunloungers and parasols, reserved for guests, free themselves up: no need to rush to claim one at dawn anymore. Swimming stays comfortable well into late October, long after the summer crowds have gone. The morning keeps its habits: horses still pass along the water's edge almost every day, and for a while the beach belongs only to the early risers.
What to do on the island in September
The Houmt Souk market can be crossed without elbowing through: the stalls of pottery, spices and woven baskets are all still there, just without the summer rush. Djerbahood, the village of Erriadh covered in murals by artists from around the world, is best seen at a slower pace, street by street. In Guellala, potters still work the island's clay the way they have for generations; you can watch them at work before taking a piece home. And the September light, softer and lower in the sky, is among the best of the year for photos, on the beach and in the lanes alike.
Life at the house in September
At Dar El Bhar, the pace slows down. The pool regains its morning calm, the beach in front of the house belongs to just a handful of guests, and the spa is the right instinct after a day in the sun: hammam, kessa-glove scrub, jacuzzi to extend the calm. In the evening, the beach bar keeps its tables in the sand, the sea a few metres away: the scenery of summer, without its bustle.
Practical: the right month to book
September rates are gentler than the height of summer, and booking directly on the site remains the simplest way to secure your dates. It is a month that particularly suits couples looking for calm, and those working remotely: the days keep their softness, the evenings stretch out, and the house finds a quiet rhythm that suits it well.
